Washington DC – The Harrington
Our hotel’s location is brilliant – exactly where it should be. Five blocks from the White-House, a block from the National Mall (not a shopping centre!), a block from the FBI Headquarters and also Ford’s Theatre. It is an elderly, family-owned hotel. Run by an elderly English Lady.
In fact, it is the oldest continuously running hotel in the USA. It looks doubtful from the exterior. The plumbing and air-conditioning are vintage. But is it spacious, very comfortable, very clean and everything works. Harry’s Bar has great on-tap beer, and the food is economic and very palatable.
Appleton WI – The Country Inn and Suites
Modern, Four Star, Spacious and Luxurious. Rooms are attractive, large, clean, functional and very comfortable. It is the Inn’s location which counts heavily in its favour. It is a matter of yards from the Machine Shed Restaurant which is also the pick-up stop for the daily transfers to and from the Oshkosh Airshow.
There are ten good and inexpensive eateries and Wisconsin’s largest shopping mall, with a huge “food-court”, all within half a kilometre of the hotel.
